Transportation officials, deputies target roadside ATV riders in Mobile County
Birmingham News
ATV riders are the target of Alabama transportation officials and Mobile County sheriff's deputies who say the off-road machines and riders are causing serious erosion and landslides along the sides Interstate 10 and unopened portions of a new U.S. 98, Mobile's Press-Register reports.
In the past month deputies have issued 43 trespassing citations to ATV users. "We get eight to 10 calls a day from people complaining about ATV riders," said Sheriff's Sgt. Wayne Goolsby.
A Transportation Department spokeswoman said the department is pushing enforcement in Mobile County because "that's where we are predominantly seeing damage."
